Robots write articles and programs
GPT-3 is a robot that understands natural language and can reliably predict what to write to complete a sentence, so many newspapers use it to write articles.
In a computer program today there are very few lines of truly innovative code: most of them are copied and pasted from other programs where they have proven to work. This explains the success of libraries, where developers can make their work available and in return use what others have done.
GPT-3 enters this environment with the ability to predict the most logical thing to write considering the previous code lines.
The biggest software companies are training GPT-3 so that, in addition to writing code, the model also learns to do it in the most effective and secure way.
That’s a great result, but we can expect one day a robot might decide a wrong thing: now it seems impossible for someone to obtain the first electricity bill, which is a damage under many points of view (for instance, a deprivation of freedom in changing the supplier). However problems can be way worse.
A human-based backup mechanism must always be included in the picture, in order to overcome these kinds of issues.
